Why do we do it?
At Red Raven Acupuncture we love our medicine, and we love our patients. Considering how many different diseases acupuncture can treat, we often get asked why we focus on pain management and mental health. It's simple:
IT WORKS
When you're in pain, in can take over your life. You don't have the ability to move, work, or even connect with loved ones. It becomes a vicious cycle of isolation that can easily lead to despair, causing even more health problems. In our approach to health and wellness, inactivity is the root of all problems. When we don't move our bodies, everything starts to get heavy and weighed down. Then it becomes even harder to move! Acute sports injuries, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, these are all things that stop us from moving. Chinese Medicine, using acupuncture and herbal medicine, can help break you out of that cycle and get you moving and feeling better fast!

What is chinese medicine? How does acupuncture work?
Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture are ancient forms of medicine that began in China somewhere between 2,000 and 5,000 years ago. Its roots come from observing nature and then applying the same cyclical patterns to the body in order to describe and treat disease. Needles about the size of a human hair are then used to stimulate specific points on the body as a way of promoting the body to heal. At Red Raven Acupuncture in San Antonio, we use this holistic approach for pain management and sports injuries.
What can acupuncture treat?
Acupuncture treats a wide spectrum of issues including but not limited to... acute and chronic pain whether its musculoskeletal or nerve pain, digestive issues, anxiety, depression, insomnia, PTSD, infertility, and stress relief. The core of Chinese Medical thinking is not about treating disease, but about creating a long and healthy life, and that means we have to not only treat you when you're in the office, but help you create habits that produce long lasting health.
where do i start?
Patients always start with a free initial consultation. This one-on-one visit lasts about 15 minutes and is used to determine whether your case is a proper fit for Chinese Medicine and our clinic. After that first meeting, you can schedule an Initial Visit, which usually lasts 45-60 minutes, and will happen in our San Antonio office. During that time we review your past medical history as well as take an in depth look at your current reason for seeking treatment. This allows us to devise a treatment plan specifically tailored for you and your needs. Acupuncture treatments will often be integrated with herbal consults, cupping, moxibustion, as well as qigong exercises, postural corrections, and stretches to do between treatments to increase the speed of recovery.
